BILD Edmonton Metro says thank you and goodbye to longtime team member, Lisa Chmilar, Manager of Membership and Growth.

Born and raised in Edmonton, Lisa Chmilar’s career in the building and development industry has been nothing short of remarkable. Her journey began when she was just 22 years old, when she joined the Canadian Home Builders’ Association (CHBA) as a receptionist.

Lisa quickly progressed into new roles in the membership department, advocating for members and ensuring that they received the best possible experience. As she took on administrative tasks, learned about the industry, and assisted in recruiting volunteers for committees, she started to make her mark on the organization.

By the time she was 28, Lisa had fully stepped into a membership role, where she spent the next decade building relationships, securing sponsorships, and making a lasting impact on the industry.

Over the years, Lisa has transformed not just professionally, but personally. She grew from a young professional into a confident leader, all while raising her two daughters, now ages four and ten. “Balancing motherhood and a career has been both challenging and rewarding. But it’s really shaped me into the strong woman that I am today,” she said. “My life is work and being a mom. It’s kept me really busy.”

It’s also super important to her that she raise strong girls who can follow in her footsteps. “When I started this role, I was very young, shy, and had a lack of confidence. But I’ve really grown into myself and my abilities. I just want my daughters to know that they can do anything they want to do, and not to let anyone question their value.”

For Lisa, CHBA and BILD Edmonton Metro have been more than a job — they have been a constant in her life, and a place that has nurtured her growth as she went through life. “This place has raised me and given me all the skills I need to go forward, while also raising my own family at the same time,” she said. “My greatest accomplishment on this journey really is the connections and close relationships I’ve made along the way.”

As Lisa starts this new chapter, assisting with new construction and building relationships with developers, she’s given the opportunity to really step outside of her comfort zone. She is looking forward to the new challenges that she will face, in both her personal and work life, and to have the opportunity to expand her skills. Although she will now be on the other side of the registration table, attending events and working with other industry professionals, her passion for the industry and the connections she has built will remain at the heart of her journey.

Lisa’s legacy at CHBA is one of dedication, growth, and unwavering commitment. Although she is moving on to new opportunities, her impact on the industry and the relationships she has cultivated will continue to leave a mark at BILD Edmonton Metro.
