Doubling Down on Downtown
Success in the core is critical for the success of our cities and region. Downtowns are vital hubs for employment, culture, education, entertainment, and government. The neighbourhood serves as a home, a place of business, and the centre for the entire region. In Edmonton, continued investment to grow the downtown population and jobs is critical for a thriving region that supports business, arts and culture, and employment.
Enhancing downtown’s vibrancy is important for countless people, whether they work there, live there, or attend one of the many sporting or cultural events held across a number of major marquee facilities. Transforming the current state to prioritize safety, access, and an improved tax base is essential for the future.
We advocate for the following outcomes:
- Attract economic investment and jobs
- Invest in revitalization for the downtown
- Invest in public realm improvements that align with the City of Edmonton’s Downtown Action Plan
- Incentivize more housing to double the downtown population
- Investment in housing incentives, infrastructure upgrades, public realm improvements, and community amenities to revitalize Edmonton’s downtown
