On August 28, BILD Edmonton Metro’s Appreciation Night event was hosted at the Edmonton Valley Zoo, and featured 150 attendees and three prestigious awards.
The gathering was held to celebrate and thank BILD Edmonton Metro’s most engaged members, sponsors, and committees, and to celebrate the successes and contributions that continue to inspire collaboration.
The awards recognized the individuals and groups whose time, expertise, and support helped drive BILD Edmonton Metro’s advocacy, events, and community impact over the past year.
“These events are integral to our industry’s growth and recognition,” said BILD Edmonton Metro’s CEO, Kalen Anderson. “Edmonton is only as good as its people, workers, and contributors are.”
The carefully curated guest list included some of BILD Edmonton Metro’s top contributors, sponsors, and engaged members in our community, and helped to ensure that the evening remains intimate, meaningful, and focused on those who shape the industry’s future.
“It was an honour to be able to award winners in these three categories and to show off some of the best in the industry,” said Nicole Moyo, BILD Edmonton Metro’s Membership and Sponsorship Coordinator and Appreciation Night organizer. “It really does make us take a moment to stop and look around at all of the amazing contributions being made.”
Engaged Committee of the Year – Funding & Finance Committee
The Engaged Committee of the Year celebrated the outstanding work of a committee, working group, or forum that made a notable contribution to BILD’s advocacy or engagement efforts.

BILD Edmonton Metro’s Funding & Finance Committee plays a crucial role in advocating for the industry. This past year, beyond reviewing fiscal policies and programs at the municipal level, and providing input at the Provincial level, the committee became the steering committee for the Urban Growth Case Study.
The committee is currently chaired by Patrick Shaver, President of Avillia Developments, and co-chaired by Crystal Brightwell, General Manager of Communities at Cameron Developments. The committee is further supported by Mike Kohl, Senior Vice President of Alberta Communities at Brookfield Residential, Ashish Khulbe, Chief Financial Officer at NAC, Kevin Backus, Senior Development Manager at Anthem, Nathan Peterson, Assistant Vice President of Real Estate at Canadian Western Bank, Dhruv Gupta, President at Akash Homes, and Jason Maurer, President and CEO of Scheffer Andrew Ltd.
“The Funding and Finance committee encompasses a bunch of different facets of industry work, and we often fly under the radar,” said Shaver. “So, for us, it’s phenomenal to be recognized and celebrated for our work.”
Meaningful Contribution – Brian Murray, B&A Studios
The Meaningful Contribution Award recognized a member who played a key role in advancing a unique initiative or project that supported the growth and impact of the association.
Brian Murray has been an exceptional and steadfast member of BILD Edmonton Metro, serving with distinction as Vice-Chair of the Downtown & Major Redevelopment Committee. Beyond his formal role, Brian has continually stepped up as a dedicated volunteer, sponsor, and contributor to many of our initiatives.
In recent years, Murray has gone above and beyond expectations by generously offering his in-kind expertise to help shape BILD’s Downtown Investment Plan. His contributions included technical planning and spatial analysis work that provided a clear, data-driven picture of downtown Edmonton’s current social and economic conditions.
Murray brought his insight and influence directly to City Council, where he passionately advocated for the extension of the Capital City Downtown Community Revitalization Levy, earlier this year.
Through integrity and purpose, he is consistently working to align public and private sector efforts for the betterment of our region.

“The Meaningful Contribution Award is really a reflection of the strength of BILD Edmonton Metro and our industry as a whole,” said Murray. “Together, we’re shaping communities that help Edmontonians build their lives — whether through careers, families, or finding a place to call home. I’m proud to play a small part in that collective effort to create vibrant, lasting spaces for our city.”
Volunteer of the Year – Moses Myrol, Tacada
The Volunteer of the Year awards honoured a BILD member who showed exceptional dedication, generously giving their time and energy to represent and promote the organization throughout the year.
Moses Myrol has been building houses in the Edmonton region for years, and has been in leadership positions since 2015. For the last two years, Myrol has been the Construction Manager for Tacada. His input and participation as a member of the Builder Technical Committee is best described as” candid” and “solution-oriented,” leading to better practices and changes to city processes through creative problem solving.

This year, he had a chance to step up more directly to support builders. With the May 2024 building code changes, BILD members were impacted. Myrol lead the Inspections Working Group, working directly with members, city inspection staff, and other key stakeholders to tackle the problems head-on. Whether it’s through addressing “Not-Ready” failures for Improper Signage and Addressing or finding compromises that work for all parties, he always ensures that momentum won’t stall on major projects.
“The advocacy team at BILD does so much for our committees and groups that I’m a part of, and I’ve gotten the amazing opportunity to attend events, host meetings, and connect with other members in the building committees,” said Myrol. “I just feel so grateful and surprised to be given this award.”
“BILD Edmonton Metro’s Appreciation Night is centred around acknowledgment,” said Anderson. “That’s why we do it – to honour and celebrate some of the best in our industry, and to show our appreciation for all that they do. Without our members and their incredible accomplishments, we wouldn’t be able to achieve this amazing version of Edmonton, the city so many of us call home.”
