BILD Edmonton Metro’s Construction Safety Week is about more than policies and protective equipment — it’s about people. It’s a time to recognize the workers across the construction industry who show up every day, committed to protecting one another.
From May 4 to 8, BILD Edmonton Metro proudly celebrated Construction Safety Week by engaging industry professionals through hands-on learning, storytelling, site visits, educational campaigns, and positive recognition for outstanding safety practices.
Aligning with National Safety and Health Week, the initiative represented the importance of collaboration and a shared responsibility in creating safer work sites across the region.

“Our industry is full of leaders who take pride in doing things the right way,” said BILD CEO Kalen Anderson. “While some heroes wear capes, these ones wear hard hats.”
The culture built on-site is just as important as the projects built in communities. Creating safer workplaces starts with open communication, accountability, continuous learning, and a commitment to looking out for one another.
To health & safety professionals, Karissa Nielson, Sam Domes, and Mark McGrath, it’s all about the leadership, advocacy, and dedication that is brought to a worksite, recognizing the players behind the scenes who ensure everyone returns home safely at the end of the day.

Throughout the week, BILD Edmonton Metro visited construction sites across the region to recognize and celebrate workers demonstrating exceptional safety leadership and professionalism.
To show appreciation for outstanding construction behaviour, BILD awarded five workers with $375 gift cards to The Home Depot for showcasing incredible on-site communication, safe work practices, professionalism, and pride in their work.
Congratulations to Buddy, Shawn E., Rob, Shawn B., and Jeff for leading by example and helping create safer job sites for everyone around them. These individuals represent the many workers across our industry who consistently prioritize safety, teamwork, and respect on the job site.
One of the highlights of the week was the Construction Safety Bootcamp, hosted at GS Construction. The event brought together over 150 industry professionals for practical safety discussions, demonstrations, and conversations focused on strengthening safety culture across the industry. Participants had the opportunity to share on-site experiences and reinforce the importance of continuous learning in the workplace.
Construction Safety Week also received recognition from the City of Edmonton, where Councillor Karen Principe provided a formal proclamation, recognizing May 4 to 8 as BILD Edmonton Metro Construction Safety Week.

The week-long celebration wrapped up with the BILD NextGen Committee’s Construction Kick-Off Mixer, bringing together emerging leaders and young professionals to reflect on the week and continue conversations around workplace culture, collaboration, and safety leadership.
While Construction Safety Week may be over, the work is not done. Creating safer workplaces requires ongoing commitment, education, and leadership from every level of the industry. The conversations that were started this week must continue on every job site, throughout every stage of construction.
A special thank you goes to the health and safety professionals, organizers, volunteers, site teams, and industry partners who helped make this week possible.
Thank you to our sponsors throughout the week, GS Construction, The Home Depot, Frost Valuations, Degner Construction, Brookfield Residential, Qualico, Primary Engineering, Raywalt Construction, MIDA Contracting, DES Engineering, and Select Engineering Consultants.
