Advance Infill and Redevelopment
Neighbourhood redevelopment is essential to long-term sustainability for existing, mature communities, housing choice for buyers and renters, and the efficient use of infrastructure. Infill and neighbourhood evolution occur over time, at varying scales and paces, making it increasingly important to adopt effective methods for planning, developing, and servicing growth in those areas.
As redevelopment of existing areas has accelerated, it is abundantly clear that more work is needed to establish a framework of planning and regulatory tools that enable fresh, vibrant development to take place, while carefully considering the local context of individual neighborhoods. Simultaneously, more work is needed to streamline processes and approvals for the kind of development that re-energizes local communities.
We advocate for the following outcomes:
- Streamlined infill processes and requirements ensuring approvals are efficient and contextually appropriate
- Collaboration with diverse partners to advance small-scale infill and missing middle housing opportunities from both a regulatory and financing perspective.
- Strategic infrastructure that enables redevelopment in existing neighbourhoods,
- A planning framework that focuses on directing neighbourhood intensification to locations that are suitable
