Realize Regional Impact

The cities, towns, and rural municipalities surrounding Edmonton are experiencing rapid growth in population and housing, alongside increasing employment and investment. These municipalities are interconnected, with decisions in one jurisdiction often affecting outcomes across the entire region. BILD Edmonton Metro plays an important role in fostering collaboration among municipal partners to support conditions that enable success for both industry and municipalities.

New requirements for intermunicipal planning could add complexity to land use approvals, while differing regulations across jurisdictions continue to create challenges for builders and developers. In response, BILD Edmonton Metro will prioritize regional issues and strengthen its focus on building and development activity outside the City of Edmonton.

We advocate for the following outcomes:

  • Greater flexibility in regulatory frameworks across jurisdictions
  • Recognition of the impact regional growth has on the Edmonton Metro Region
  • Collaborative engagement with municipal partners on growth and housing development
  • Consistency across jurisdictions in the adoption and interpretation of regulations (e.g. zoning, safety codes)
